Beacons Thrive on Three Ball in Geoduck Rout

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Bushnell men's basketball team hit 13 three-pointers including eight in the second have as the Beacons pulled away from The Evergreen State on Friday night, 106-78.

After trading early buckets and finding themselves down 9-8, the Beacons made an early run, jump-started by a Kaden Sand three-pointer as they went on a 11-2 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. Bushnell led by as many as 16 points in the first half and took a 46-34 advantage into the intermission.

Coming out of the break, the Geoducks attempted to make a game of it and with 14:26 remaining, had climbed to within eight points on a Deondre Russ bucket. They had it within eight again, 65-57 with under ten minutes to play.

Bushnell responded in a big way, hitting five three-pointers at part of a 22-3 run in just four minutes to put the game away. The visitors finished the game scoring 41 points in the final 9:22 for a 28-point margin and their biggest CCC victory in exactly six years (December 30, 2016 / 95-61 victory over Walla Walla).

"We played a great game tonight," said Head Coach Eddie Alexander. "I was excited about how our guards defended tonight. We have been working so hard to fix our issues and the guys are starting to get it done on the court."

The Beacons (4-8, 2-4 CCC) shot 59% from the field and were 13-for-23 from three-point range. They were also outstanding at the free-throw line again, shooting 17-for-18. Spencer Hoffman was up to his usual tricks in the post, hitting 20 points for his seventh-straight 20-point game as he shot 75% from the field. His 14 rebounds was a game high and matched his season best. Cory Johnson (pictured) went 5-for-6 from beyond the arc, scoring a season-high 19.

"Another great game by Spencer," added Alexander, "relieving the press and doing it in the paint. Cory had a huge game off the bench. That guy is in the gym more than anyone and it showed tonight. He has a bright future."

Sand hit a pair of treys and finished the night with 16 points while Trevon Richmond added 14 points and a game-high seven assists. Johnson was joined off the bench by Luke Smith with 13 points and Isaac Girley with ten.

Evergreen (1-8, 1-5) was led by Tyler Williford, scoring 16 points with a team-high nine rebounds. Russ added 15 while Jaden Upshaw scored 13 and Alex Glen added ten.

Bushnell will be back in action on Saturday evening, closing out the calendar year at 5:00 pm in Kirkland, for a New Years Eve class with Northwest (6-6, 3-3).
