EUGENE, Ore. – In a game that saw nine lead changes and eight ties, the visiting Warner Pacific men's basketball team snuck out of the Morse Center with a 78-74 Cascade Conference victory over Bushnell.
Thomas Miles led the charge for the Knights, scoring 28 points including three triples and a 7-for-7 performance at the free-throw line, lifting WPU to 5-2 on the season including a perfect 3-0 start to the CCC slate. Maxwell Moses added 16 points off the bench while Isaac Etter tacked on 13.
The Beacons (2-5, 0-3) were led once again by
Spencer Hoffman who scored 27 points on 11-for-19 shooting.
Kaden Sand was the only other Beacon in double figures, scoring 12 points and matching a game-high with eight rebounds.
Stevie Schlabach added nine points and eight boards while
Trevon Richmond (pictured) finished with eight points and a career-high ten assists.
The seesaw battle came down to the wire as the teams were tied 70-70 with under two minutes to play. A layup from Etter, was followed by a Bushnell turnover and the Knights converted on the other end to take a 74-70 lead and put the Beacons to rest.
After the game, Head Coach
Eddie Alexander said, "This group hasn't learned how to win yet. Losing your homestand by nine points combined is tough. We are close but we need to execute the little things like reading the defense, seeing the pass, executing out of timeouts. The guys are feeling the frustration of this losing streak. We hope a conference break and a good road trip will right the ship."
Bushnell will be back in action next weekend as they hit the road for Montana, playing in the Carroll College Classic. They open up on Friday against the tournament hosts at 7:00 pm Mountain time.
