Beacons Clinch Playoff Berth

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell volleyball team clinched a top-six finish in the Cascade Collegiate Conference on Friday as they defeated Walla Walla University in three sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-18. Bushnell clinched a spot in the CCC tournament with the win.

Bushnell (18-11, 13-8 CCC) out-flanked the Wolves in every statistical category, except digs where the teams were even at 47 apiece. The Beacons out-blocked WWU 6-2, held a 7-2 margin in service aces and out killed the Wolves, 38-24.

The Beacons offense was led by Payton Jones with nine kills while Brooke Silvernail added eight. Chloe Kurahara added six kills without an error to hit .600, added five blocks while Halle Neumann finished the afternoon with seven kills and five blocks.

Makenna Northern led all players with 14 assists, despite playing just one set while Peyton Ritchie (pictured) added 11 in two sets of action. Callie Wilkins also earned a match-high with 22 digs.

"We had a steady performance today," said head coach Jason Corwin. "I thought we did a good job of slowing their attack down. I appreciated everyone's ready-to-play approach in whatever role was needed and we maintained our standard of play from start to finish."

The Wolves (1-20, 1-20) were led by Gabrielle Browning who posted a match-high 11 kills and team-high 12 digs. Meherio Krainer and Anja Cole collected 11 assists each while Sarah Browning posted four kills and ten digs.

The Beacons will close out the regular season on Saturday evening, playing host to Lewis-Clark State College at 5:00 pm. Bushnell will honor seniors Shay Coons, Halle Neumann, Payton Jones, Peyton Ritchie, Makenna Northern, Callie Wilkins, and Jessica Northcutt in a pregame ceremony.
