KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Bushnell men's soccer team dropped a physical confrontation with Northwest University on Friday afternoon, 5-2, but not before sophomore
Caleb Burke provided a bit of a silver lining with his school-record-tying seventh goal of the season.
Â
The Beacons (3-8-1, 1-6 CCC) were out-shot 21-10 in the contest but were the first team to get on the scoreboard. Just six minutes into the contest,
Caleb Premo found
Miguel Nascimento for the go-ahead strike.
Â
Just four minutes later, Northwest (5-5-2, 3-3-1) evened things out and in the 31st minute they took their first lead of the contest. The 2-1 score would hold until the break.
Â
The Eagles produced what would become the game-winner in the 60th minute and scored two more over the next nine minutes to claim a 5-1 lead.
Â
Then, with just 26 seconds remaining in the contest,
Juan Palacios sent a cross into the box that Burke stretched to put a head on. The ball bounced under the keeper, off the left post and into the back of the net.
Â
Burke ties the seven-goal season which has been accomplished three previous times, all by Greg Erickson. The last was 12 years ago.
Â
After the game, Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "This was a tough loss today. The guys played hard against a very physical opponent. We were able to create some chances and score a couple of goals which gives us some confidence for tomorrow's game."
Â
Bushnell continues their current six-match road on Saturday, traveling to Olympia to take on The Evergreen State College (4-7, 3-8) at 3:00 pm.
