Northern Named CCC Volleyball Setter of the Week

EUGENE, Ore.  – Guiding Bushnell to an important pair of road victories, junior Makenna Northern was named the WVT Laboratory Cascade Collegiate Conference Setter of the Week on Monday.

The Beacons, who are currently receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll, improved to 11-2 on the season, including a 7-2 mark in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, with a pair of wins against Evergreen State and Northwest.

Northern produced one of the strongest weekends of her career, including a 58-assist performance in a marathon five-set victory over Evergreen on Friday night. That tied her own Bushnell single-match record, and faced with an opportunity late in the fifth set to break the mark, Northern did what she did best in picking the perfect time for a dump-set attack of her own for the kill. The Beacons won the match just one point later.

She finished the weekend averaging 12 assists per set and moved up to No. 18 in the NAIA as she is averaging 10.23 aps on the season. She leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference as well.

This is the third CCC Player of the Week for the Beacons this season and second for Northern. She now had nine such honors in her career, placing her second all-time in Bushnell history behind former Track & Field National Champion Bailey Dell at 10.

The Beacons return home this weekend and will close out the first half of the CCC slate against Walla Walla University (0-10, 0-9) on Friday and Lewis-Clark State (11-6, 6-3) on Saturday. Bushnell is currently alone in third-place in the CCC and sits two games behind Corban University in first.
