Losing Streak Ends with Win over Wolves

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash.  – The Bushnell Men's Soccer team won for the first time under the Bushnell name on Sunday, breaking a 16-game losing streak as they defeated Walla Walla University, 3-2.

The Beacons (1-4, 1-1 CCC) won for the first time since November of 2019 and did so behind the strength of three first-half goals, surviving a late charge from the Wolves. Walla Walla (0-3-1, 0-2 CCC) took 15 shots-on-goal including 13 in the second half. Julian Hernandez registered the win in goal, making nine saves.

Akiva Wikramaratna (pictured) got the Beacons on board in the 20th minute and Joel Kambou was close behind in the 24th, scoring his second goal in as many games as the Beacons went up 2-0. The closing moments of the first half featured another strike as Juan Palacios scored off a pass from Kaleb Sabino.

Head Coach Will Hander said, "It was a good win today, especially with the adversity we have had to deal with as a team over the past few weeks. We will enjoy it but we need to get back to work to get ready for next weekend."

Bushnell will be on the road again next weekend, continuing Cascade Collegiate Conference on Friday at Eastern Oregon and on Saturday at The College of Idaho.
