Debut Baseball Roster Announced

EUGENE, Ore.  – The newly relaunched Bushnell Baseball team has announced the addition of 27 recruits for the 2022 season.

Head Coach Tommy Richards had a very specific plan heading into the initial recruiting cycle and the coaching staff is confident that they have achieved their goals. "I am really proud of the work of [assistant coaches] Jamie and Yoony," said Richards. "They have poured themselves into this initial recruiting class.  We came together as a group and identified qualities that would be non-negotiables for us and really tried to hold ourselves to those standards. We set out to recruit a team that possessed high character, big work ethic, and team-first intentions. Time will tell, but I feel confident that our players possess those qualities."

The initial 27 players who have signed Cascade Conference Letters of Intent include a mix of incoming freshmen and transfer students. Coach Richards said, "We struck a good balance with this team. Though it is a younger roster, we have a veteran presence in every position group and can rely on some experienced players to help navigate our club through the day-to-day effort it will take to be successful."

Coach Richards pointed to a number of themes that have emerged in the initial roster, including to the large number of players who came from historically strong baseball programs, along with a heavy presence of local talent. "Recruiting out of quality programs was a big priority for us," he sad. "We wanted to capture players that have been well coached and know what the work looks like. I love the kids we brought in, and I admire the programs they are coming from. We hope to continue to earn the respect and recommendation of these programs. Those long-standing relationships are invaluable for a program.

"We secured some local talent and want to build on these in roads. Our club will have a local flavor, and it is our intention to earn the commitment of future generations of players in our region and in our state. We feel awesome about the local battles we were able to win but recognize that we need to earn the respect of our region to get more local talent."

While the first 27 signed athletes are being announced, recruiting continues for the first class with a handful of players still expected to committ to the Beacons before the start of school this fall.
