HELENA, Mont. – Putting their four-game sweep at the hands of the undefeated College of Idaho Yotes behind them, the Bushnell softball team returned to action on the road on Friday with a split against Carroll College.
Head Coach
Katie Duroe said, "Our pitchers did really well today, especially Miranda in game one. Our defense looked sharp in the first game and our hitters were disciplined and seeing the ball well. In the second game we started beating ourselves, making errors on routine plays, and our sticks got cold."
GAME ONE: Bushnell 8, Carroll 2
The Beacons set the tone for the weekend in the opener, pounding out 12 hits as they handled the Saints.
Miranda Jensen gave up two runs on four hits in the first inning but was lights-out the rest of the way, claiming her sixth victory of the season.
With the early deficit, the Beacons were forced to fight back, and fight they did. In the top of the third, the visitors posted a five-run inning, fueled by a sacrifice fly from
Anna Cardwell (pictured) and a two-run homer from
Alexa Berry.
Noel Balderston went 4-for-4 for the Beacons with two RBI and a run while Berry ended the game hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI.
GAME TWO: Carroll 10, Bushnell 6
The Beacons jumped out to a five-run lead in the second game with
Jordan Kuykendall and
Sam Silver each producing home runs. Unfortunately, the Saints crept back into the game as they collected ten earned runs on 16 hits. Bushnell had seven hits spread among seven batters with Jensen coming home to score twice.
The teams will do battle once again on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 am central time.
