Bushnell Finishes Salem Sweep

EUGENE, Ore. – It took a strong effort than their 24-point win on Friday, but the Bushnell women's basketball team still conquered the Corban Warriors again on Saturday, pulling away late for an 88-74 victory.

Bushnell (6-2, 5-1 CCC) held a 45-31 lead after a strong first half but saw the Warriors mount a comeback in the third quarter.

Corban climbed to within five at the end of 30 minutes of action and with 6:29 to play took their first lead on a three-pointer from Gemmaa Lavergne.

Morgan McKinney provided the answer with a jumper, and a three-point play on back-to-back possessions, giving the visitors a 71-67 lead with 5:42 remaining. From there, the Beacons were off to the races, mounting an 18-3 run to go up by 14 with just over a minute to play.

The Beacons shot 45% from the field and hit 11 three-pointers. They forced 18 turnovers and held a 39-35 rebounding advantage. Corban shot 43% and had 19 assists on their 26 made buckets.

Aspen Slikfa, who scored ten points in the final ten minutes, led all players with 19 points. The sophomore shot 7-for-11 from the field and hit three triples, adding five rebounds and a team-high six assists. Morgan McKinney added 18 points and tied for the team high with eight rebounds.  Aly Mirabile and Kalina Rojas each scored 11 points off the bench as the Bushnell reserves out-scored their Corban counterparts, 26-19.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We played well tonight. Credit to Corban for battling back in the third quarter. We had a point where Morgan took over. We had a real lull, and she righted the ship and our press really gave them fits with the game on the line."

Corban (4-4, 2-1) was led by Halle Wright, scoring 16 points with a game-high eight assists. Holly Golenor scored 15 while Shaelie Burgess added 11.

The Beacons return home next weekend for a CCC back-to-back against Warner Pacific (4-5, 1-3). The teams will face off at 3:00 pm on Friday and 1:00 pm on Saturday.
