Mathis Pushes Beacons to Sixth Straight Win

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Libby Mathis contributed her first career double-double as the Beacons rolled to a 93-65 victory over Warner Pacific University on Friday night.

Bushnell (7-2, 6-1 CCC) blitz their way to a 33-6 lead after the first quarter as they went 5-for-6 from three-point range and shot 67% while holding the Knights to 2-for-17 shooting. Warner Pacific was never able to recover.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We really came out of the gates quick, led by our ball press and our disruptive defense in the half court got us off to a great start. The game looks really easy when you come out and shots are falling the way they were tonight."

With a comfortable lead in hand, the Beacons were able to give plenty of rest to their starters as no player was on the court for more than 21 minutes. The result was a 36-point effort from the bench, led by 22 points and 11 rebounds from Mathis.

"We were able to give some great experience to a lot of players tonight and we were able to see some great things," said Meadors. "Obviously, Libby was a force down inside and looked unguardable at times. When she slows down and makes decisions as they come she is really fun to watch and her growth is going to continue to be tremendous."

Three starters did join Mathis in double-figures including Sarah Reinecker who hit four of Bushnell's season-high 15 three-pointers and finished with 16 points. Morgan McKinney added 13 points and seven rebounds while Kaylen Kamelamela scored 11 points and posted a game-high six assists.

The Beacons ended the night shooting 58% from three-point range and 50% overall. Aly Mirable came off the bench to score seven points with five assists and Alyssa Kuskie added six points and owned three of the team's 14 steals.

Warner Pacific (4-6, 1-4 CCC) was led by Gabriella Bruno, scoring 18 points. Courtney Jackson shot 3-for-17 from the field and added 11 points while Kylie Guelsdorf added ten points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The teams will return to the Morse Center on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip-off in game two of the weekend series. "Warner Pacific is a lot better team then what we saw tonight and I expect to see a battle tomorrow," said Meadors.
