Beacons Drop Two More to C of I

EUGENE, Ore. – The College of Idaho softball team won another pair of games against Bushnell on Saturday, taking the CCC opener 10-1 in six innings before winning the non-conference night cap, 8-2.

GAME ONE: College of Idaho 10, Bushnell 1

The Yotes scored five runs in the fifth, blowing open a 3-1 game before going on to win via the run-rule with two more in the sixth. The College of Idaho had ten hits in the game, while Bushnell was held to five scattered singles.

Tia Dumlao helped to avoid the shutout in the bottom of the fourth when her sacrifice fly to right field brought home pinch-running Lilly Bauer.

Hannah McNerney (9-5) went the distance for the Yotes, striking out five. Leslie Reynaga pitched five innings in the loss for the Beacons and struck out two.

The bottom of the order proved potent for C of I with Sydney Zachry and Aleah Mendiola combining to hit 6-for-6 in the eight and nine sports. Zachry earned four runs batted in while Mendiola scored twice. Noel Balderston went 2-for-3 for the Beacons in the leadoff spot.

GAME TWO: College of Idaho 8, Bushnell 2

The second game also remained close until the end, which College of Idaho posted five runs over the final two innings to expand on a 3-2 lead.

Bushnell produced a run in the first on an RBI single by Sam Silver and one more in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Anna Cardwell.

Kaylee Macdannald, Lauren Garman, and Makenna Luke each had three hits for the visitors while Sam Silver (1-7) had a pair for the Beacons, backing up her own complete game pitching effort in the circle.

Katelyn Wilfert also threw a complete game for the Yotes and grabbed her third win of the weekend, striking out four batters.

Bushnell will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to Montana to face Carroll College on Friday and Saturday.
