Yotes Sweep to Remain Undefeated in CCC

EUGENE, Ore. – The College of Idaho softball team flexed a little muscle on Friday, putting together a pair of run-rule victories over Bushnell University, 15-3 and 13-0. The Yotes produced 28 hits over the double-header at Rich Schwab Field to remain undefeated in CCC action.
 
Head Coach Katie Duroe said, "This series we really started to put things together. The whole weekend was a full team effort and we had another two games of quality at bats. One inning we saw 47 pitches and I think that really shows how much our hitters have matured and how disciplined they are."
 
GAME ONE: College of Idaho 15, Bushnell 3
 
The Yotes put the game away early as they scored seven-runs in the top of the first inning, capped off by a three-run home run for Hattie Hruza.
 
Bushnell got three on the board in the bottom of the second, as Sam Silver and Maddy Steelman recorded RBI singles and Alyssa Ferreira earned a sacrifice fly. C of I, however, pulled away with four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
 
Kaily Christensen went 3-for-3 with a double and five RBI, scoring five runs to lead the Yote attack. Five other players had multi-hit games and Hannah Mikel posted a pinch-hit three-run homer in the fourth.
 
For the Beacons, Steelman had two of the team's six hits.
 
Miranda Jensen (5-9) took the loss for the Beacons, giving up four earned runs as before leaving in the first inning. Katelyn Wilfert pitched the final 3.1 innings for the College of Idaho, giving up just two hits while striking out five to grab the victory.
 
GAME TWO: College of Idaho 13, Bushnell 0
 
Wilfert (9-3) continued her strong pitching into game two where she threw a complete-game one hitter, striking out three to earn her second win of the day.
 
This time it was Kylie Smith with the big bat, hitting 3-for-3 with three runs and six RBI she had two doubles and a home run, each of which produced two runs. Haley Loffler batted 2-for-2 from the leadoff spot and was hit twice, scored four runs and had two stolen bases. The Yotes racked up eight steals in the game.
 
Noel Balderston picked up the only hit for Bushnell, an single in the first inning. Leslie Reynaga (0-4)  threw a complete game for the Beacons.
 
The Beacons (6-22, 3-12 CCC) will host first-place College of Idaho (24-8, 13-0) again on Saturday with the double-header starting at 11:00 am.
