CRESWELL, Ore. – The Bushnell University men's golf team took full advantage of playing on their home course this week, claiming a decisive 24-stroke win at the Bushnell Invitational, hosted at Emerald Valley Golf Course.
Bushnell led the tournament wire-to-wire and closed out the event with a tourney-best 298 in Tuesday's third and final round. The Beacons finished with a score of 897, topping second-place Multnomah University (921), third-place Corban University (925) and fourth-place College of Idaho (926).
CCC-leading Oregon Tech, currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll, finished tied for fifth-place with Lewis-Clark State as both teams scored 934. Walla Walla rounded things out in seventh (1022).
Bushnell boasted three top-five individual finishers, led by medalist
Jon Holzgang (pictured). Holzgang started the day in eighth place after a second-round 80, but recorded the best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a three-under 69. He finished at 220 and four-over par to defeat Corban University Kasey Crossland by one stroke.
Caden Stubbs took third (224) followed by
Cole Radbourne in fourth (226). Jacob Larson from Multnomah and Nick Torry from Corban rounded out the top-five, tied at 227.
Also part of the Beacon scoring team were
Andrew Webb in 13th (231) and
Jackson Muramoto in 15th (232). Bushnell also had five individuals competing with Conner Maloney leading the way in 29th (244).
Ethan Pentony was 32nd (247) followed by
Alvaro Molina in 42nd (253), Jackson Findley in 45th (260) and
Evan Zuvich in 49th (280).
As the final home tournament of the season, Bushnell had a small ceremony after Tuesday's round to honor seniors Holzgang and Pentony, along with women's senior Kelsie Hellwege.
Heading into the final tournament of the season, the Bushnell men's golf team now owns first-place in the CCC standings with a combined win/loss record of 16-2. They will look to win their first ever regular-season Cascade Collegiate Conference championship in two weeks when the conference schools converge on Caldwell, Idaho for the CCC Championship Tournament. The winner of that singular tournament will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship tournament.
