EUGENE, Ore. – Playing at home for the first time this season, the Bushnell University men's soccer team was shutout for the first time, dropping their Cascade Conference opener to No. 16 Corban, 5-0.
The Warriors (3-0, 1-0 CCC) began their CCC Championship title defense with strength on both halves of the pitch, out-shooting the Beacons 29-5 including a 15-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Corban scored three goals in quick succession early in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead as Matheus Giron, Noe Favila, and Carlos Llamosa all found the back of the net within the first 19 minutes.
Giron added a second goal in the 30th minute, collecting his own rebound off a saved penalty kick to give the visitors a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Bushnell buckled down defensively in the second half and did not allow the final goal until the 78th minute when Charles Clayton scored on a penalty kick.
Justin Keegan made three saves in goal for Corban for the shutout win while
Julian Hernandez had ten stops for the Beacons.
Bushnell Head Coach
Erik Carrazco said, "This was a tough match for the boys and obviously not the result we wanted. I don't think 5-0 reflects what we are more than capable of doing. Corban is a great team and if you allow them to play their game and do what they want to do, they are going to punish you.
"We are excited just to be able to finally open conference play. We are a young team and we are trying out some new things and are experiencing the growing pains from that. The boys are hungry to get back out their tomorrow."
The Beacons (0-3, 0-1) and Warriors will face off again tomorrow night at 7:00 pm.
