Beacons Win CCC Series with Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Bushnell softball team claimed their first series victory in two years on Saturday as the split a double-header with Eastern Oregon. After splitting Friday's pair of games, The Beacons won the third game of the CCC series, 4-3, before dropping the non-conference fourth game, 13-12.

Head Coach Katie Duroe said, "This series we really started to put things together. The whole weekend was a full team effort and we had another two games of quality at bats. One inning we saw 47 pitches and I think that really shows how much our hitters have matured and how disciplined they are."

GAME ONE: Bushnell 4, Eastern Oregon 3

Things did not start off too well for the Beacons in the opener as they gave up two runs in the first and one in the second to spot the Mounties a 3-0 lead. Miranda Jensen gave up four hits in the first inning and was relieved by Sam Silver who calmed things down as Bushnell mounted their comeback.

In the fourth, Bushnell loaded the bases before a failed fielder's choice saw Silver score from third. On the next at-bat, Jensen punched a single through the right side of the infield, scoring two more as the Beacons tied the game.

The winning run came in the top of the seventh when Jensen scored on a single by Jordan Kuykendall.

Bushnell had just five hits in the game, including two for Jensen. Silver claimed the victory with six innings of work, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out a pair.

GAME TWO: Eastern Oregon 13, Bushnell 12

Hits were a little easier to come by in the crazy second game that saw the Beacons punch out a 14-8 lead in hits but suffer from three errors in the non-conference loss.

EOU  (9-17, 5-7 CCC) was spotted a 5-1 lead after two innings, but the Beacons came back to score eight over the next two, taking a 9-5 lead.

The Mounties added four more to tie it in the bottom of the fourth, only to see the Beacons steal the advantage again with a run in the top of the fifth. Four more EOU runs gave the home team a 13-10 lead as they headed into the seventh.

Bushnell made a run at it, getting an RBI single from Suzi Krstic who later scored on a double by Jensen. That would be the end of the scoring, however, as EOU salvage the split.

Jensen went 4-for-5 in the game with four RBI, giving her a six-hit day. Krstic batted 3-for-3, had two walks, and claimed four runs and four RBI. Silver and Alexa Berry each had a pair of hits including a double for Berry.
The Beacons (6-20, 3-9) will be back in action next week, coming home to face first-place College of Idaho who remains undefeated in CCC action at 12-0. Friday and Saturday's double-headers will both begin at 11:00 am.
