LEWISTON, Idaho - With a sensational third-round performance on Tuesday, the Bushnell men's golf team jumped from sixth to second place at the Lewis-Clark Invitational, taking place at Lewiston Golf Club.
Sitting ten shots out of first after Monday's two rounds, Bushnell shot a tournament-low 294 on Tuesday and finished seven shots behind Oregon Tech in the second Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament of the season. With a three-round score of 916, the Beacons defeated Multnomah and College of Idaho by three shots and Lewis-Clark by four.
Jon Holzgang also owned a tournament-low performance individually on Tuesday, shooting a four-under 68 to finish with a three-round even-par total of 216. He ended the event just two shots behind OIT's Mayson Tibbs for the individual medal. "I was super proud of how everyone performed, especially in the third round," said Holzgang. "the course was difficult and the greens were extremely fast. I was pleased with how I played and I was fortunate to put really well today. I am proud of this team and the progress we have been making."
Holzgang wasn't alone in the top-ten as
Caden Stubbs took seventh-place. His 225 (76-74-75) was just three shots out of third. Rounding out the team scoring were
Jackson Muramoto (78-77-75--230, 11th),
Andrew Webb (84-88-76--248, 35th), and Conner Maloney (90-85-82--257, 39th). Competing as an individual,
Cole Radbourne took 23rd (75-84-79--238).
The Beacon women also competed in Lewiston, taking 5th-place overall, fourth among CCC counting teams. Host Lewis-Clark won the event by eight strokes over Oregon Tech. the LC State "B" team took third, followed by Corban and Bushnell. The College of Idaho rounded out the team scoring in sixth.
Kelsie Hellwege claimed ninth place to lead the team, shooting an 80-84--164.
Cassidy Krauss followed in 12th (84-85--169),
Carli Brousseau took 19th (88-87--175) and
Fernanda Gardea was 29th (96-95--191).
The Bushnell golf teams will be back in action on April 13 and 14, returning to the friendly confines of the Emerald Valley Golf Club where they will host the Bushnell Invitational.
