Beacons Swept by No. 7 Owls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The daunting Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule didn't get any easier for the Beacons in week two as they moved from facing the No. 1 team in the NAIA to the No. 7 team, falling twice to Oregon Tech in five innings, 11-3 and 9-0.

The Owls (16-0, 5-0 CCC) collected 25 hits in the double header, including 12 that went for extra bases. Kennedy Jantzi led the way, combining to hit 6-for-6 with seven RBI and four runs. She tied the NAIA record with three home runs in the first game.

The Beacons (2-14, 0-5 CCC) collected three hits on the day including doubles from Miranda Jensen and Kerry Murphy in the opener. Noel Balderston helped Bushnell avoid a no-hitter in the second game, providing a single to open the fourth inning.

Jensen (2-5) took the loss for the Beacons in the opener, allowing ten earned runs while Sam Silver (0-3) allowed eight earned in the second game. Both pitchers went the distance.

For the Owls, Sarah Abramson (9-0) threw the two-hitter in the opener, striking out eight. She gave up four walks including one to Jordan Kuykendall with the bases loaded. McKenzie Staub (7-0) got the win after striking out three batters and allowing one hit in four innings of game two.

Head Coach Katie Duroe said, 'We have the strongest hitting lineup we've had in my three seasons here but our hitters need to step up and we need to capitalize when runners get on base. When we were more disciplined at the plate today, we forced their pitcher to work and drew several walks. We have all the tools and athletes to be successful, we just have to put it all together."

The teams will return to action on Saturday for another double-header, beginning at 11:00 am.
