REDDING, Calif. – The Beacon men's soccer team played to their second 2-1 defeat of the season, falling to Simpson University on Friday afternoon.
Â
It was the first win for the Red Hawks over the Beacons (0-2) since 2015 and just the third win all-time in the series for Simpson (1-2).
Â
Bushnell struck first, getting a goal in the 20th minute by freshman
Kyle Aure, producing his first collegiate score. Luis Diaz was in on the assist.
Â
The score remained 1-0 heading into the second half, when Simpson began to impose their will, scoring twice as they owned a 15-1 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes.
Â
In all, Simpson out-shot the Beacons 24-5, and held Bushnell to just one shot-on-goal.
Julian Hernandez was busy in goal once again, facing nine shots-on-goal and securing seven saves.
Â
"It was a tough second half for us," said head coach
Erik Carrazco. "Simpson was the aggressor and we just couldn't find our touches and possession that we had in the first half and it made it difficult to get out of our own half and create any opportunities. I was excited for Kyle to get his first goal, and we are continuing to learn about each other and how to play together and ultimately a tough match like that is only going to help us grow."
