COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Bushnell went deep into the bench on Saturday night and came away with their school-record tying 20th victory of the season, knocking off Walla Walla University in four sets, 25-20, 18-25, 25-11, 25-17.
Â
The Beacons (20-6, 16-6 CCC) end the regular season in fourth-place in the CCC while the Wolves season comes to an end at 0-23, 0-22 in the conference.
Â
Bushnell played 16 different players on Saturday, giving plenty of action to some players who haven't regularly been able to get on the floor during the regular season. Among them was freshman defensive specialist
Bella Parque (pictured) who threw on the Libero jersey for the first time and came away with a career-high 25 digs, the most by a Beacon player this season. She also had five assists and a team-high three service aces.
Â
Parque said, "Finishing conference on a high note is a huge achievement. We have a big game on Tuesday and I think we are ready to give our all and leave it out on the court."
Â
Peyton Ritchie got the start at setter, and collected 15 assists. She said, "It feels good finishing conference on a win. When we get home we have a quick turnaround to prepare for playoffs, but we are ready."
Â
The Beacons hit over .300 as a team and were led by freshman Middle Blocker
Sierra Jenkins who had 13 kills without an error for a .684 clip.
Halle Neumann and
Camille Guerrero added seven kills apiece while
Makenna Northern led Bushnell with 22 assists in just two sets of action.
Â
After the match, head coach
Jason Corwin said, "We got to see a lot of our players tonight. Walla Walla got it going in set two and picked up the win serving tough and hitting hard. We responded in the third and got back into rhythm.
Sierra Jenkins carried us on offense and
Bella Parque was fantastic in the back row."
Â
It is now on to the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament where the Beacons will host a game for the first time on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Bushnell will host fifth-place Northwest University.
