Balanced Scoring Gives Beacons 72-55 Win

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell University men's basketball team concluded the Beacon Classic with a victory over visiting Pacific Union College as five Beacons reached double-digit scoring on Saturday night in the Morse Center.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, "Tonight was grind as we were recovering from a tough loss last night. We did what we needed to do in a few short spurts of good defense, but overall we did not play to the level we expect."

The Pioneers held a slim advantage through eight minutes of play before the Beacons grabbed a lead they wouldn't give up. A 10-2 run to conclude the first half put the Beacons up 40-27. Bushnell maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the second half.

Drayton Caoile and Luke Smith led the Beacons in scoring with 13 points each. Nico Wolff led the team with eight rebounds and added a season-high 10 points. Dillon Young recorded 12 points, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Jarrett Bryant added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Bushnell shot 41.5% from the floor on the night, including 31.6% from three-point range, but struggled from the free throw line, recording a season-low 68.8% (22-32).

"I will never take a win for granted, but our guys are not satisfied as we have so much more in us," said Alexander. "We are excited to get into conference play on Tuesday. Corban will be a tough opponent and we need to be ready to execute on both ends of the floor."

The Beacons open Cascade Collegiate Conference play at Corban University on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
