Early Blitz Begets Beacon Victory

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell women's basketball team stormed out to a 21-0 lead and the win was never in doubt as they toppled Pacific Union College on Friday afternoon, 79-50, in the Beacon Classic.

The Beacons (1-3) hit 13 three-pointers and collected 14 offensive rebounds, forcing 22 turnovers on their way to their first victory of the season. Bushnell shot 42% from the field and held the Pioneers to 39% shooting.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We got off to a good start offensively, and it was nice to have a strong first quarter. Defensively, we did a really good job in the second half, stopping the penetration which is something we have struggled with so far this season."

Leading the way for the Beacons was Sarah Reinecker (pictured), hitting seven three pointers on ten attempts for 21 points. Libby Mathis came off the bench to add 15 points, hitting 7-for-13 from the field. Meadors said, "Sarah had a great performance from the perimeter and it's so nice to know we can count on that. Getting Libby the ball inside and letting her work a little bit is giving her a change to progress and improve and that is really exciting for us moving forward."

Morgan McKinney was a big part of the conversation all night, collecting ten points along with game-highs in rebounding (13), assists (7), and steals. Bella Pedrojetti added 12 points, hitting four three-pointers.

Pacific Union (0-3) scored 29 points off the bench, as Lizette Moreno posted 15 and Samantha Foong registered ten to lead the team. The top starter was Camoeron Genteroy, scoring nine points while Olivia Jessee added six points and eight steals.

Bushnell returns to action at 3:30 pm on Saturday, taking on Montana Tech.
