Beacons Dig Out Victory Behind Slifka's 34

EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Aspen Slifka scored a career-high 34 points on Saturday as the Beacons avenged an earlier loss to Montana Tech, burying the Orediggers, 75-63.

Bushnell (2-3) blew the game open as they scored 20 straight points to open the second quarter, and never looked back, winning their second straight game after dropping a matchup with MT in Montana last week, 84-73. The Beacons shot 48% in the game and hit nine three-pointers while holding Tech to 44% shooting. Bushnell out-rebounded the Diggers 41-27 and pulled in 15 offensive boards, along with claiming six blocks.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We played some Beacon defense tonight and I am just happy we were able to go out there and cause some problems and disrupt their offense the way we are capable of. It was long overdue. We still have some things to work on and there is a lot left on the bone for us to get better with, but I am excited with where we are at."

Morgan MilestoneSenior Morgan McKinney put together another strong night with 11 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, her rebounding and assist totals both pushed over some major milestone numbers for her career as she became the first Bushnell player ever to score 1500 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists, and 150 steals in her career.

Slifka scored 12 points in the second-quarter blitz and finished her night with 34, four shy of the school record. She shot 14-for-19 from the field and hit five three pointers, adding three steals and four rebounds. Bella Pedrojetti came off the bench to score 15 while Libby Mathis grabbed seven rebounds and three blocks.

The Orediggers (5-4) were led by Brooke Heggie, scoring team-highs with 15 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Tavia Rooney added 13 points and four steals.

The Beacons will have a quick turnaround for the start of Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday as they are set to travel to Salem to take on Corban University (1-5) at 5:30 pm.
