Shorthanded Beacons Drop One to Knights

EUGENE, Ore. – The Warner Pacific University men's soccer team came into Eugene on Saturday and walked out with a 6-0 victory over Bushnell at Les Schwab Sports Park.

Bushnell (1-8, 1-5 CCC) allowed two goals in the second half and then a quick one to open the second. The Beacons played the final 30 minutes of the game with a two-man disadvantage as a pair of Beacons earned their second yellow cards within a three-minute span and were sent off.

The Knights (8-2, 5-1) took advantage, scoring three more goals to put it away. Brennan Murphy led Warner Pacific with two goals, scoring the game-winner in the 37th minute of a combination assist from Juan Gudino and Arturo Bahena.

Just 15 seconds later, Bahena, the reigning NAIA Player of the Week, scored as well, off a pass from Murphy.

Warner Pacific finished the game with an eye-popping 43-4 advantage in shot attempts. Zander Harer and Preston Ferry had shots-on-goal for the Beacons, with Harer's coming the closest as his attempt ricocheted off the keeper, off the crossbar, and out of play.

Julian Hernandez was busy in goal for the Beacons, recording 13 saves. Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado played the first 65 minutes in goal and made one save to pick up the win.

"The game really didn't go as planned tonight," said head coach Will Hander, "but I really am proud of the guys and the way they battled. It is tough to go a player down but to go down two definitely raises the challenge. We didn't give up and I am most proud of that,"

The Beacons will remain home next weekend as they play host to The Evergreen State College on Friday at 12:30 pm.
