EUGENE, Ore. – The Warner Pacific University men's soccer team came into Eugene on Saturday and walked out with a 6-0 victory over Bushnell at Les Schwab Sports Park.
Â
Bushnell (1-8, 1-5 CCC) allowed two goals in the second half and then a quick one to open the second. The Beacons played the final 30 minutes of the game with a two-man disadvantage as a pair of Beacons earned their second yellow cards within a three-minute span and were sent off.
Â
The Knights (8-2, 5-1) took advantage, scoring three more goals to put it away. Brennan Murphy led Warner Pacific with two goals, scoring the game-winner in the 37th minute of a combination assist from Juan Gudino and Arturo Bahena.
Â
Just 15 seconds later, Bahena, the reigning NAIA Player of the Week, scored as well, off a pass from Murphy.
Â
Warner Pacific finished the game with an eye-popping 43-4 advantage in shot attempts.
Zander Harer and
Preston Ferry had shots-on-goal for the Beacons, with Harer's coming the closest as his attempt ricocheted off the keeper, off the crossbar, and out of play.Â
Â
Julian Hernandez was busy in goal for the Beacons, recording 13 saves. Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado played the first 65 minutes in goal and made one save to pick up the win.
Â
"The game really didn't go as planned tonight," said head coach
Will Hander, "but I really am proud of the guys and the way they battled. It is tough to go a player down but to go down two definitely raises the challenge. We didn't give up and I am most proud of that,"
Â
The Beacons will remain home next weekend as they play host to The Evergreen State College on Friday at 12:30 pm.
