Beacons Fall Behind Early on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Rocky Mountain College earned a 5-0 victory over Bushnell University in Friday afternoon's Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer match at the Les Schwab Sports Park.

Rocky Mountain (7-4-2, 4-3-1 CCC) scored four goals in the first half, beginning with a shot from deep outside the goal box from Amber Pearson five minutes in. Pearson and Brynn Klinefelter then assisted Tiara Duford, connecting on a corner kick in the 20th minute for the 2-0 advantage.

Halle Labert extended Rocky Mountain's advantage to 3-0 with a goal just under four minutes later, finding the net after Tiara Duford's cross from the right side of the field. The fourth score of the half came off an own goal from the Beacons.

Rocky Mountain secured the shutout in the second half, holding the Beacons to three shots in the period. Klinefelter knocked in a goal of her own in the 77th minute in what would be the final goal of the match. The Battlin' Bears finished with a 27-10 lead in shots and an 18-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Bushnell (4-10, 2-7 CCC) was led by Amanda Whetten's five shots. The senior played all 90 minutes on defense for the Beacons. Anabel Mendez collected 13 saves on the match.

Mendez, Jamie Figueredo and Whetten were honored before the game for Senior Day. Head Coach Benny Flores commented on the contributions these three seniors have had on the program.

"Anabel was a last-minute addition to our team, and we were so lucky to have her," said Flores. "She is one special young lady. Anabel brings joy to everything that she does and her smile is infectious. Anabel had never played keeper before this year and she did an incredible job. We played dodgeball against the men's soccer team and I am sure glad she was on our team. Anabel, thank you so much for all your hard work. I know that God has big things in store for you. I can't wait to watch you play softball this year!"

"Jamie is one of those players that every coach wants. Extremely talented, great in the classroom, and a wonderful team leader. Out of all the teams that I have coached, Jamie is one of the best team leaders I have ever had. She has been a great example for our younger players and is one of the toughest players on the team. One of my favorite memories of Jamie was her coming to our Halloween practice dressed like me with the hat and goatee. I also won't forget finding out Jamie and Amanda have a list of all the crazy things I say. P.S. I deny everything on that list. Jamie, God has great things planed for you. You will be missed."

"Amanda is going to be hard to forget. She has grown so much in the past few years. Amanda was always talented, but now she is talented and has a strong belief in herself. I always love hearing her 'on the farm' stories or growing up in a small town. She is one of the leaders on this team and has shown our younger players how to balance soccer, school and personal life. My favorite quote from Amanda was when she came up to me at lifting one day and said, 'Coach look, I got guns' as she proceeded to flex for me. Amanda, you will be missed. I know that God has big plans for you."

Bushnell will be on the road next weekend for the first time in three weeks to take on Southern Oregon (Oct. 22) and Oregon Tech (Oct. 23).
