CALDWELL, Idaho – The Multnomah men's soccer team scored the game winning goal just a minute after Bushnell had tied the contest in the second half, and walked away with a 3-2 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Friday afternoon.
Â
A tight game throughout, Bushnell (1-7, 1-4 CCC) finished with a 15-13 deficit in shot attempts. Each team had three saves, and Multnomah (2-7, 2-3) held a slim 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
Â
It was the Lions who would strike first, scoring just four and a half minutes into the contest when Noe Magana took a pass from Alejandro Jaramillo and scored from the middle of the Beacons.
Â
Bushnell got into the conversation in the 17th minute. Akiva Wikramaratna fired a 35-yard yard free-kick into the box and
Andrew Mitchell got a head on in, the ball bounced straight to the feet of a charging
Caleb Burke who fired it home for the equalizer.
Â
Multnomah went on to score another in the 30th minute when Jaramillo posted his second assist, this time sending a corner kick to Jaren Bowler for the score.
Â
It was another free-kick for the Beacons that would once again tie the game up in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Josh Ishizaka drilled a 22-yard strike off the crossbar and straight down, breaking the plane of the goal on the way. The teams played on at first, but after consulting with his linesman, the referee confirmed the goal, making it 2-2.
Â
The visitors, however, went right back to work and quickly scored what would be the game winner just 65 seconds later. Axel Mbuyu dribbled past a defender and sent a ball just out of the reach of the keeper and into the net.
Â
"We battled hard today and just got unlucky," said head coach
Will Hander. "We had some opportunities that we just didn't convert but we played well and we look to tomorrow."
Â
The Beacons continue their six-game home stand tomorrow, facing off against Warner Pacific (7-2, 4-1) at 12:30 pm.
