Box Score 2 REDDING, Calif. – The NCU softball team had a less-than ideal open to the season on Wednesday, dropping a double-header at Simpson University.

The Red Hawks claimed run-rule wins in each game, 8-0 in five innings in the opener and then 8-0 in six innings in the night cap.

Simpson starting pitcher Sunshine Wehunt registered a no-hitter in the opener, striking out four batters. She allowed two walks, both to
Noel Balderston who also picked up a stolen base.

Emma Jegtvig got the call for NCU and threw into the fifth inning, striking out seven batters while giving up two earned runs.

The Redhawks were led by Alexis Burt who went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBI.

Game two featured NCU's first hits of the season including singles from
Miranda Jensen and Jegtvig and a double from
Alexis Westbrooks. The Beacons struck out nine times against winning pitcher Sydney Moorhead.

The Beacons (0-2) will continue their opening road trip in Lake Elsinore, California on Friday-Sunday as they are set to compete in the NAIA SoCal Classic. They will open up against William Jessup at 10:00 am on Friday.
