2018-19 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball All-Americans
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Austin Tyner has been named an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention for 2019, as released by the national office on Thursday.
Â
Tyner, the only four-year senior on the NCU roster, had a breakout year in his final season in an NCU jersey. He led the team in scoring, averaging 20 points per game which ranked second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Tyner was also the top steals man in the conference, averaging 2.7 per game which placed him third in the NAIA. He was also fifth in the CCC in free-throw percentage and three-point field goal percentage.
Â
Tyner also earned his first CCC Player of the Week award back in January after a dominating weekend in which he averaged 22.5 points per game as NCU swept their road series with Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech for the first time in school history.Â
Â
Tyner was also selected to participate in the NAIA Men's Basketball All-Star Game which takes place at Municipal Arena in Kansas City, Mo. On Tuesday, March 26 at 6:00 pm.
Â
The Beacons finished the 2018-2019 campaign at 19-10, taking third-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. It was the third-highest finish in school history behind the 2016 and 2017 back-to-back championships during Tyner's freshman and sophomore seasons. In all, Tyner was part of 85 wins during his career, averaging just over 21 wins per season.
Â
The Cascade Collegiate Conference was well represented on the All-American teams. CCC Player of the Year Mitch Fink from Oregon Tech and The College of Idaho's Talon Pinckney were both selected as First-Team All-American while Warner Pacific's Collin Malcolm was named to the Third-Team. Five others joined Tyner among the honorable mentions.
