Lutes Sweep Neutral Site Clash

EUGENE, Ore. – The Beacons played a neutral site double-header on Friday, meeting in the middle to take on Pacific Lutheran University at the Gordon Faber Complex. PLU came away with the sweep winning 4-3 and 12-4.

Sophomore Emma Jegtvig got things started for the Beacons in the circle and had another solid outing with seven strikeouts in a complete-game effort, but the Lutes were able to come back with four late runs to take the victory.

NCU got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the third. Sabrina Guerra hit a lead-off double and was quickly brought home on an Alexis Westbrooks single. Westbrooks later scored on a wild pitch.

Pacific Lutheran tied the game in the fifth and took a 4-2 lead in the sixth on a two-run home run from Samantha Simundson. The Beacons got one back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Maya Jenkins, but it wouldn't be enough.

Kennedy Robillard (3-0) picked up the win for PLU, striking out two batters and scattering four hits.

Pacific Lutheran picked things up quickly in game two, tagging NCU starter Shay Shropshire for six runs in the first inning and the Beacons were never able to recover, falling via run-rule after five innings.

Anna Cardwell (pictured) went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI and Jessica Garner added a pair of stolen bases in the loss.

Northwest Christian will be back in action next weekend, playing their home opener and Cascade Collegiate Conference opener as the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds come to town for a four-game series. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday.
