Box Score Eugene, Ore. The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team got their 2019-2020 season underway with a home victory against Willamette University on Saturday as they won 66-57.
The Beacons took a first quarter lead and never looked back as they outscored the Bearcats 41-27 in the first half, shooting 55% from the field and 62.5% from three. NCU shot 43% for the game and outrebounded Willamette 40-39.
Junior
Morgan McKinney led the Beacons (1-0) with a game-high 21 points as she shot 8-for-11 from the field. Freshman
Aspen Slifka made her Beacon debut with 13 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Numerous Beacons contributed as
Kaylen Kamelamela added nine points,
Shanay Dotson added seven points,
Sarah Reinecker added seven points and
Hannah Eddens added six points. Junior forward
Kayce Mock led all players with nine rebounds along with three points, three assists and two blocks in the win.
Willamette (0-1) was led by senior Kassin Hopkins with 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Elizabeth Logsdon had twelve points and seven rebounds while Ashly Ascuena-Mercil added 11 points and five rebounds.
The Beacons will return to action on Friday, November 22, against Carroll College at the Morse Event Center at 3:30pm.
