Fighting Saints Hold Off Beacons

Box Score Eugene, Ore. – After trailing 17 points in the first half, the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team was able to narrow the lead to within five in the third quarter but Carroll College was able hold off the Beacons down the stretch as they won 77-67.

Junior Morgan McKinney led Northwest Christian (1-1) with a game-high 20 points as she shot 82% from the field along with four rebounds and two assists. Freshman Aspen Slifka added nine points and a game-high six assists. Sarah Reinecker (pictured) added 13 points off the bench including two key three pointers during their third quarter run where the Beacons made five three pointers as they shot 71% from beyond the arc for the quarter. The Beacons experienced some shooting struggles in the first half as they shot just 39% compared to 56% in the second half.

Sienna Swannack led the Fighting Saints (2-1) with a team-high 15 points while Christine Denny had 11 points, a game-high eight rebounds and two steals. Off the bench Jaidyn Lyman had nine points, five assists, and two rebounds. Behind 16 offensive rebounds, The Fighting Saints were able to outrebound the Beacons 41-25.

The Beacons will look to bounce back on Saturday, November 22, as they take on Simpson University at 5:30pm at the Morse Event Center.
