Beacons Come Up Short Despite Brace From Mitchell

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Andrew Mitchell scored two goals and the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team put together one of their strongest efforts of the season before coming out on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision to No. 18 Corban University on Saturday.

The Warriors (12-0-2, 10-0-1 CCC) out-shot the Beacons 16-8 as both teams manages seven shots-on-goal. Corban also took a 2-0 lead in the opening half hour, showing the strength that has led them to remain undefeated on the 2019 season. Allando Brown registered the first goal off a feed from Camilo Avendano in the 14th minute and 15 minutes later Matheus Giron scored, assisted by Kohl Hurtado.

To their credit, the Beacons only increased their resolve facing the deficit and Mitchell scored his first goal just five minutes later. Ethan Crofts laced a perfect 30-yard pass to the far post where Mitchell awaited and fired home the score.

The Warriors took a 2-1 lead into the intermission but the Beacons weren't finished. Mitchell scored again in the 66th minute to tie the game, creating his own shot in the box.

Allando Brown, however, needed just three minutes to provide the answer, posting his second of the game. Yuki Onishi assisted on what would become the game-winner.

The Beacons (2-10, 2-9 CCC) return to action for their final set of games next weekend. On Friday they will take on Rocky Mountain at 3:00 pm. Then on Sunday, the Beacons close out the season against Walla Walla at 2:00 pm with Senior Day festivities scheduled for pre-game.

Corban will also close out their regular-season next weekend with Walla Walla on Friday and Rocky Mountain on Sunday.
