ASHLAND, Ore. – No. 9 ranked Southern Oregon University can now claim to be the only team in conference not to allow a set to NCU this season as they swept the Beacons for the second time in 2019, 25-16, 26-24, 25-21.
Â
Coming as winners of four of their last five matches, NCU (15-9, 7-8 CCC) hit just .110 in the match and was out-blocked 11-7 as they dipped back below .500. The Raiders (21-3, 12-2) hit .221 and remain a half-game ahead of Corban for second-place in the Cascade Conference.
Â
The Raiders were seemingly in control all night, save for a strong end to the second set by the Beacons. Back-to-back kills from
Jessica Northcutt capped off a 9-3 NCU run, tying the game at 24-24. Elliott Cook of SOU answered with a kill and a block to put the set away and Southern took care of business again in the third.
Â
Taylor Gould led the Beacon attack with 11 kills and three blocks while
Claire Salness added eight kills.
Payton Jones led NCU with four blocks and hit .364 with six kills.
Makenna Northern posted a double-double as she collected 28 assists and ten digs.
Kayla Olson posted team-highs with 12 digs and two service aces.
Â
Cook and reigning CCC Player of the Year Taylor Ristvedt combined for 25 kills while Makayla Hoyt had a hand on six blocks for the Raiders.
Â
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Friday night, taking on Oregon Tech at 7:00 pm in Klamath Falls. The Owls (13-11, 6-8 CCC) fell in four sets to #12 Corban University on Thursday.
