Owls Hold off Beacons

Eugene, Ore. - The Northwest Christian University men's soccer team lost 3-1 at home Friday to Oregon Tech.

Freshman John Sarna started the visiting Owls (8-3-2, 5-3 CCC) off early scoring two first half goals off Daniel Blessinger assists. After a 2-1 halftime lead, Jake Mitchell put the Beacons away scoring a solo goal in the second half to give OIT the 3-1 victory. The Owls outshot the Beacons 18-13.

Sophomore Andrew Mitchell led the Beacons (2-6, 2-8) with a solo goal off a corner kick at the 18-minute mark of the first half. Jovanny Sanchez had a team-high three shot attempts while Senior Goalkeeper Julian Hernandez had seven saves in the loss.

After the defeat, head coach Will Handler stated, "The score didn't show how well we played. I'm proud of the guys for battling hard and we will keep working and improving."

The Beacons will look to bounce back Saturday as they take on Southern Oregon University (7-5, 5-2) at Les Schwab Sports Park at 12:30pm.
