Beacons Fall to Corban in Four Set

SALEM, Ore. - The Beacons fought hard on Friday night, but were unable to conquer the defending CCC champions on Friday night, falling to Corban University on the road 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23.

The Beacons had no answer for the Warrior attack in the first set as the home team scored 21 of their 25 points on kills, hitting .514. The correct adjustments were made in set two, however, as the Beacons forced 11 attack errors and allowed just ten kills as they took their only set of the night.

NCU may not have won, but they made Corban work for it. Over the final two sets, Corban held a four-point lead just twice as the teams mostly remained within two points of each other. They were tied seven times and fought through seven lead changes, but the Warriors prevailed each time.

Senior Haley Meili (pictured), who played her first three collegiate seasons at Corban, made the most of her return to Salem, collecting 19 assists to lead the Beacons. Claire Salness posted 11 kills while Natalie Downes and Megan Van Marter added nine kills apiece.

Van Marter, who leads the CCC with a .444 hitting percentage, had another strong night as she had just one attack error, adding five blocks. Kayla Olson led all players with 13 digs and three service aces.

Corban (8-6, 4-1) had four players with double-digit kills, led by 15 from Adriana Aguayo. Jadyn Mullen posted a match-high 29 assists and Kealani Ontai recorded a team-leading 12 digs.

The Beacons will be back in action next Friday night as they play host to No. 21 Eastern Oregon at 7 pm.
