PORTLAND, Ore. – After being unable to score in their first three games of the season, the Northwest Christian University women's soccer team made up for lost time on Sunday, knocking off Mills College, 4-0. The game was highlighted by a hat-trick from senior
Libby Gregory.
Â
The Beacons (1-3) controlled the entire afternoon as they held a 17-3 shot advantage and kept the Cyclones to just one shot-on-goal.
Â
Gregory came up with what would become the game winner in the 25th minute, collecting the ball off of a deflection and drilling the back of the net from eight yards out.
Â
The score remained 1-0 headed into the second half, but the Beacons quickly posted an insurance goal. Just 30 seconds in, freshman
Hannah Best received a pass across the box from Jamie Figuerdo and fired in a ten-yard strike for her first career score.
Â
Gregory went on to score her second goal in the 74th minute, on a 20-yard shot set up by sophomore
Taylor Binkerd. Senior
Britnee Joaquin assisted the final goal in the 87th minute when her pass set up Gregory for a 24-yard bomb that sailed over the keeper.
Â
Gregory's hat-trick was the first of her career and first for the Beacons since Janelle Richards scored three against Mills on September 17, 2014.
Â
Katie Hastings wasn't very busy between the pipes on Sunday but came away with her fourth career shutout, moving into sole possession of third place on the NCU career list. Â
Â
The Beacons will be back in action on Friday as they begin Cascade Collegiate Conference action playing host to Northwest University at 7:30 pm.Â
