KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.   – Junior
Jessica Garner has sprinted to another stolen base record as the Beacons traveled to face No. 24 Oregon Tech in a four-game set over the weekend.
Â
Already owning NCU's career record after just 2 ½ seasons, Garner has now toppled her own single-season mark with 16 games remaining in the season. The previous record of 16 was set last season and with three this weekend she now has 18 on the year.
Â
Game One: Oregon Tech 2, Northwest Christian 0
Â
Oregon Tech Freshman Pitcher Sarah Abramson threw a complete-game shutout in the series opener on Friday, outdueling NCU's
Emma Jegtvig. Abramson struck out 13 batters and gave up six hits, only one of which went for extra bases. Garner hit 3-for-3 in the game with a double and the record-tying swipe.
Â
Kiahna Brown had a pair of solo home runs to account for all of the Owls offense.
Â
Game Two: Oregon Tech 9, Northwest Christian 2
Â
OIT posted four runs in the first inning and four in the second to outpace the Beacons in the second game.
Â
Jegtvig provided NCU with their scoring, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. It was her first career dinger and helped the Beacons avoid the run-rule.
Â
Also in the night cap, Garner collected the record-breaking steal.
Â
Game Three: Oregon Tech 8, Northwest Christian 1
Â
The Beacons took an early lead in the Saturday-morning special as
Alyssa Gayle hit her CCC-leading eighth home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the first.
Â
OIT tied the game in the second and added five runs in the third to open too wide a gap for the Beacons to close.
Â
NCU had five hits scattered throughout the game including Gayle's homer and four singles.
Â
Game Four: Oregon Tech 11, Northwest Christian 2 (Five Innings)
Â
In the non-CCC counting fourth game, Oregon Tech jumped out fast, grabbing a seven-run lead in the first inning.
Â
Freshman
Ciera Farias posted an offensive highlight for the Beacons, hitting a solo home run, the first of her career.
Â
Â
The Beacons are scheduled to return home for a weekend series against No. 15 Southern Oregon on Friday and Saturday. While not yet officially postponed, that is the expected outcome with a grim forecast on the horizon.
