SOU Sweeps Rare Triple-Header

EUGENE, Ore.   – No. 14 Southern Oregon University came to town on Monday for a Cascade Collegiate Conference triple-header, necessitated by the weekend rainstorm. The Raiders took all three games.

Game One: Southern Oregon 12, Northwest Christian 2

The Beacons scored twice, once in the first inning and once in the fourth, but the Raiders pounded out 15 hits to take the victory in the opener. Harlee Donovan went 3-for-3, scoring three runs with three RBI.

The Beacons were led by Avery Daniels, hitting 2-for-4 with an RBI. Emma Jegtvig took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs over three innings.

Game Two: Southern Oregon 3, Northwest Christian 0

Southern Oregon hurler Allie Hancock took a perfect game into the sixth inning, retiring the first 16 batters she faced before Alexis Westbrooks got a single for the Beacons first hit of the game. Hancock completed the complete-game shutout, however, allowing just two hits (a double by Jessica Garner was the second).

Jegtvig (2-12) took the hard-luck loss for NCU, throwing a complete-game and allowing just one earned run.

Game Three: Southern Oregon 10, Northwest Christian 4

The Beacon bats came alive in the night cap and NCU matched SOU run-for-run through the first five innings. Northwest Christian scored two runs in the first inning as Garner scored on an Alyssa Gayle double and Gayle came home on a single for Ereanna Higbee.

NCU's other pair of runs came in the bottom of the third, on a two-run single off the bat of Daniels.

Morgan Jones picked up the victory for the Raiders in relief, giving up three hits over three innings without allowing a run. Gayle went the distance for the Beacons, picking up her team-leading eighth complete game of the season.

The Beacons will hit the road for Montana this weekend, traveling to face the University of Providence in back-to-back double-headers on Friday and Saturday.
