Carroll Sweeps Conference Twin Bill

EUGENE, Ore.   – Carroll College moved to .500 in conference play on Monday, sweeping a double header from Northwest Christian University, 7-2 and 5-1.

Game One: Carroll 7, Northwest Christian 2

The Beacons were able to avoid the shutout with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Fighting Saints controlled the action for most of the game. Carroll collected nine hits including three that went for extra bases, along with three stolen bases.

The bulk of the damage was done during a five-run second inning, highlighted by a Allison Williams solo home run and back-to-back doubles from Natalie Gaber and Tianna Sell.

Williams (7-4) went the distance to pick up the victory, allowing six hits. Emma Jegtvig (1-7) took the loss for NCU, allowing four earned runs while striking out a career-high nine batters. It was the highest strikeout total for an NCU pitcher this season.

Game Two: Carroll 5, Northwest Christian 1

This time it was the Beacons who struck first, getting their run in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Jessica Garner singled, stole second, moved to third on a fly-out and score on an RBI ground-out by Avery Daniels.

Carroll would put up two of their own in the fourth inning, adding another run in the fifth and two insurance tallies in the seventh.

Anna ApRoberts led the Saints offense as she hit 3-for-4 with three RBI. Tess Eaton (7-0) registered the victory, allowing just two hits in the complete game effort.

Alyssa Gayle also went the distance for the Beacons, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out three batters.

The Beacons and Saints will play two more games on Tuesday. The first will be a conference game and the night cap will be a non-conference clash.
