No. 14 Mounties Hold Off Beacons

EUGENE, Ore.  – Trailing by as many as 20 points late in the first half, the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team got within five in the third quarter but Eastern Oregon University kept the Beacons at bay in a 74-61 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory.
 
Eastern Oregon (8-2, 3-0 CCC) welcomed back reigning CCC Player of the Year Maya Ah You Dias on Friday night after the senior missed the first nine games of the season. Ah You Dias wasted no time in getting back into her dominant ways, scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds, adding four assists.
 
Maren Herrud posted the game high with 22 points, shooting 9-for-12 off the bench including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from three-point range. Jane Nelson added 13 points for a Mountie team that shot 40% from the field and hit 12 three-pointers. EOU also owned a 45-35 advantage on the boards, grabbing 17 offensive rebounds.
 
The Beacons (5-8, 2-2 CCC) were led by Shanay Dotson, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Eddens came off the bench to score nine while Brittany Ralston went 2-for-2 from three-point range, scoring eight points. The Beacons shot 37% from the field and were just 3-for-16 from three-point range in the loss.
 
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, playing host to The College of Idaho at 2:00 pm. Eastern will travel to face Corban University in Salem at 4:00 pm.
