EUGENE, Ore.  – After starting the game on a 14-0 run, the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team gradually cooled off, falling to Corban University 72-61 on Tuesday evening in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both schools.
Â
Corban (5-3, 1-0 CCC) shot 42% in the game and a 45-35 rebounding margin played a large part in the team's success with 15 offensive boards contributing to multiple second-chance scores. The Warriors went three quarters without hitting a three-point field goal, missing their first nine attempts. After falling behind 49-45 early in the fourth quarter, the visitors started hitting their deep tries when it counted, going 3-for-4 over the final six minutes as they pulled away for the 11-point victory.
Â
The Beacons (3-5, 0-1) hit eight three-pointers but were just 21-for-58 on the night and committed 17 turnovers. NCU also went without a double-digit scorer for the first time since December 5, 2014, ironically also in a CCC-opening home game against Corban.
Â
The Warriors had four starters in double-figures, led by 20 points from Jordan Woodvine including two of those late triples, and 14 total points in the fourth quarter. Emily Yost added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Abby Forsyth scored 11 points with three steals. Treasure Farmer posted ten points and three assists.
Â
NCU was led by
Sarah Reinecker (pictured) and
Conner Borigo with nine points each. Borigo added a game-high 12 rebounds.
Morgan McKinney scored eight points, adding six rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Â
The Beacons will be back in action this weekend, traveling to face Walla Walla University in back-to-back conference games on Saturday and Sunday. Corban will return home to play host to Willamette University in a non-conference game on December 6 at 6:00 pm.
