EUGENE, Ore.  – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team bounced back from a loss to Corban earlier this week, sweeping a pair of games from Walla Walla University, 84-59 and 82-52.
Â
The Beacons (5-5, 2-1 CCC) held the Wolves (1-9, 0-2 CCC) to just 28% shooting over the pair of games and used their size advantage to out-rebound WWU by an average of 18 boards per game.
Â
Head Coach
Chad Meadors said, "It was great to get out of there with a sweep. We had to overcome missing three of our top six rotation players due to some illness and injury, which gave us a chance to develop some depth as everybody had the opportunity to play. Walla Walla has two really good players and they got theirs, but being able to hold them to low percentages is what we were looking for and what we were able to do."
Â
SATURDAY: Northwest Christian 84, Walla Walla 59
Â
The Wolves got 39 points combined from top shooters Carolina Montes and Aaliyah Anderson and kept things close through the first three quarters. NCU, however, dominated the final ten minute stanza, out-scoring Walla Walla 25-10 as the Wolves shot just 18.8% from the floor.
Â
Shanay Dotson led the way for the Beacons with an impressive double-double, scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds, along with five assists, three blocks, and two steals.
Conner Borigo also hit the double-double, scoring a game-high 23 points with ten rebounds. Â
Â
Morgan McKinney added 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists with a strong well-rounded night of her own while
Jenna Christenson came off the bench to hit four of NCU's 11 three-pointers, scoring 14 points.
Â
SUNDAY: Northwest Christian 82, Walla Walla 52
Â
The offense continued to roll and the defense tightened the screws just a little harder during Sunday's matinee, allowing the Wolves to hit on just 25.4% of their shots including a 5-for-36 clip from three-point range. Montes and Anderson were held to just 17 combined points and were 1-for-14 from beyond the arc.
Â
McKinney (pictured) led NCU with a double-double, scoring 23 points with ten rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Borigo added 11 points and ten rebounds while
Dani Baker came off the bench to score ten points and eight boards. Like Christenson the night before,
Alyssa Kuskie was the hired gun, coming off the pine to hit four treys and finishing with 12 points.
Â
The Beacons will have a short reprieve from Cascade Collegiate Conference action, traveling to face Saint Martin's on Friday, December 7. Tip-off is slated for 5:15 pm.
