EUGENE, Ore.– The NCU volleyball team may have dropped their penultimate game of the 2018 season on Friday night, but it wasn't without a silver lining. Senior
Megan Van Marter set a new single-season record for blocks as the Beacons fell to Oregon Tech 26-24, 25-16, 25-23.
Â
Van Marter came into the night just two blocks away from a new single-season standard and proceeded to collect six, pushing her season total to 93. The previous record of 88 lasted for just one season, having been set by
Keri Schwarz last year.
Â
NCU ended the night out-blocking the Owls, 8-6, and out-digging OIT, 65-63, but hitting at just a .133 clip didn't help matters as the Owls rolled to the victory.
Â
The Beacons (12-16, 5-14 CCC) were led on offense by
Claire Salness, collecting 13 kills along with nine digs. Van Marter added 10 kills and hit right at her season average of .421.
Makenna Northern owned a double-double before the first set was in the books and finished the night with 22 assists and 14 digs.
Kayla Olson led all players with 19 digs.
Â
Oregon Tech (12-14, 7-12) received a match-high 16 kill effort for Chase Bohman who added 12 digs for the double-double. Jaime Toedtemeier added 28 assists and 13 digs while Nicole Reyes posted six kills and a team-best 16 digs.
Â
The Owls will close out their season at 5:00 pm on Saturday, traveling to Salem to take on Corban University. The Beacons also play at 5:00, hosting No. 10 Southern Oregon on Senior Night.
