Mounties Clinch Crown Against NCU

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon claimed at least a share of the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season championship on Sunday as they defeated the Beacons, 2-0.

The Mounties (13-1-2, 9-1-2 CCC) out-shot the Beacons 30-4 in the game, including a 16-2 edge in shots-on-goal. Freshman Amanda Whetten (pictured) came off the bench to collect both shots-on-goal for the Beacons.

EOU scored their first goal in the 33rd minute on a Taylor Boyer strike after a service pass from Josee Bassett. Then, 20 minutes into the second half the Mounties added an insurance goal with an unassisted success by MacKinley Gregus, her tenth of the year.

NCU keeper Katie Hastings was peppered all afternoon and kept the Beacons in the game, making 14 saves.

The Beacons (2-11-1, 1-8-1) will return home for their final weekend, beginning with a Friday evening meeting with Warner Pacific University at 7 p.m.
