WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Senior Forward
Victor Irechukwu brought in a haul on Friday afternoon, surpassing multiple milestones as he led the Beacon men's soccer team to a record-breaking 10-0 road victory over Walla Walla University.
Â
Irechukwu became the first player in NCU history to score four goals in a game, completing the record with a penalty kick in the 86th minute. He has now scored six goals on the season and upped his career total to 14 to move into sole possession of second-place on the all-time scoring list.
Â
He also moved to 34 points in his career and his assist on the first goal of the day brought his career total to six, giving him a tie for the NCU career assists record.
Â
That game-winning goal came off the foot of
Malcolm Fleming, earning his first career goal just 12 minutes into the contest. Irechukwu scored the next two and
Simon Estifanos posted his first career score as well, finding the back of the net in the 44th minute to give NCU a 4-0 halftime lead.Â
Â
Then, just two minutes into the second half, Irechukwu completed only the third hat-trick in school history, scoring off a pass from
Jaime Aguayo.
Josh Cloyd scored the first of his two goals in the 59th minute.
Â
As a team, NCU put some distance between the new record and the previous best of six goals in a game, which the team had done twice before. That total was eclipsed in the 63rd minute on an unassisted goal by Luis Diaz whose cross into the box kept rolling until it found its way across the line for a goal.
Â
Just 35 seconds later, Cloyd completed his brace off a through-ball from Estifanos. In the 76th minute, senior Alex Abalan, who already had a pair of assists in the game, got into the action as he scored off a pass from
Jose Magana.
Â
The final stat line included a 33-10 advantage in shots, with 17 shots-on-goal which finished just two shy of the school record. Along with the goal record, the Beacons also broke the single-game record for assists with seven.
Â
Walla Walla (0-15, 0-11 CCC) did manage to pull off six shots-on-goal which amounted to a five-save shutout for
Julian Hernandez. Josiah Nakoa collected six saves between the pipes for the home team.
Â
The Beacons (3-10-1, 2-7-1 CCC) will be back in action on Sunday, traveling to La Grande to take on Eastern Oregon University at 11:00 am.
