Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 16-ranked Northwest Christian University women's basketball team outscored Northwest University 41-22 in the second half as the Beacons completed their season sweep of the Eagles with a 75-57 conference victory tonight.
Morgan McKinney led NCU (16-3, 9-3 CCC) with 21 points, seven boards, seven assists and two steals. The Beacons forced 19 turnovers and held a 25-22 rebounding advantage on the night.
NCU gained the upper-hand early in the opening period, hitting treys on three consecutive possessions to key a ten-point run and give them a quick 15-5 advantage. Northwest closed the gap towards the end of the period with their own streak of nine answered, cutting their deficit to 20-15 with just under a minute remaining.
Hannah Eddens hit an and-one free-throw to complete a three-point play as the clock wound down, sending the Beacons into the second with a 23-15 lead.
The Eagles flipped the script in the second, steadily chipping-away at the Beacon lead. NU scored eight in-a-row over a three-minute stretch to take back the lead, 28-27, with 4:07 left on the clock. NCU went back on top thanks to a six-point streak of inside scoring, however this stretch was followed by Andie Kristinat hitting two three-pointers in the final thirty-seconds to give Northwest a 35-34 edge heading into the intermission.
After a 20-point second period, the Eagles managed just six in the third. The Beacon defense held the Eagles scoreless for a five-minute stretch midway through, running-off 11 straight to put them back in the driver's seat. NCU scored 18 of the final 19 points in the period, giving them a comfortable 54-41 lead to close the set.
The Eagles rebounded with 16 points in the fourth, but they were unable to close the gap as the Beacons tacked-on 21 in the final ten minutes to seal the victory.
Anamaria Virjoghe came up just short of a double-double in the game, finishing with 17 points and nine boards.
Conner Borigo turned in an eight point, six rebound effort, while
Niki Duncan and
Allison Parker both hit a pair of three-pointers, finishing with seven and six respectively.
Miranda Langenhurt led the Eagles (6-15, 3-9) in scoring and rebounding with 22 points and ten boards. Kristinat went 4-11 from long-range, good for 14 points. Guard Mariah Stacona finished the night eight points, six rebounds and three steals.
The Beacons finish their two-game Washington road trip tomorrow evening when they travel to Olympia to take on The Evergreen State College Geoducks. The game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
