Back on Track Against New Hope

EUGENE, Ore. – A return to the Morse Event Center was what the Beacon volleyball team needed, brushing off an 0-2 weekend with a dominant victory over crosstown foe New Hope Christian College on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-18, 25-12.

The Beacons (10-4) was in control of the match from the first serve, never trailing on the night while establishing a.225 attack percentage. Meanwhile, the Deacons (3-7) collected just 20 kills to 26 errors to hit negative for the night, due in part to seven blocks for the Beacons. NCU also collected a season-high nine service aces including three from senior Sydney Rothenbush.

After two strong sets, NCU asserted true dominance in the third set and it was Rothenbush who would go on one of the longest service streaks in school history. Tied 3-3 after an attacking error, the Beacons rattled off 15 straight points to take an 18-3 lead. NCU finished the set hitting .308 with Keri Schwarz going a perfect 3-for-3 on the attack adding three blocks.

Schwarz finished the night hitting .500 with nine kills and just one error, in addition to five blocks. Claire Salness owned a match-best 14 kills and Natalie Downes added four blocks to the effort. Maci Beierle led all players with 28 assists and Haley Damian tied for the match high with ten digs.

The Deacons were led by Loke Moepono-Techur with six kills. Hope Ivey produced eight assists while Sky Moskowitz and Breezy Husband tied Damian for the match lead with ten digs apiece.

NCU will be back in action on Friday as they play host to Southern Oregon University at 7:00 pm.
