HELENA, Mont. - For the second day in a row, the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team collected a shutout victory on the road, topping Carroll College, 1-0.
Â
The Beacons (2-4-1, 2-1-1 CCC) were out-shot 15-6 and had just two shots on goal, but one early in the second half would be all they needed as sophomore Keeper
Yayo Olvera was a steel trap between the pipes, making seven saves.
Â
Carroll was on the offensive early and held an 8-0 lead in shot attempts during a scoreless first half. Then, in the 59th minute the Beacons made good on their first shot of the game, as
Jesse Figueroa volleyed a loose ball from 15-yards out, striking a rocket to the left of the keeper for the would-be game-winner.
Â
NCU withstood a physical contest that saw 36 total fouls including seven yellow cautions being awarded.
Â
With the victory, NCU moved up to a third-place tie in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with seven points after also earning a shutout victory at Providence on Friday. Head Coach
Benny Flores said, "It was a great weekend for the boys. To get two wins on the road in our conference is incredibly difficult. Carroll is a great team. They are well coached and talented but our boys met the challenge. Our motto is that we win and play as a team. We did that today. The team has really started to play for each other and I am extremely proud of them."

Northwest Christian will be back in action on Friday as they return home to face Southern OregonÂ
