Owls Take Two From Beacons

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Tech, ranked No. 22 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, claimed the first two games of a four-game series on Friday afternoon at James Park, 6-3 and 6-0. Tech Improves to 10-4 in CCC play and 19-7 overall with the sweep. NCU drops to 2-22 on the year, and 2-11 in conference.

GAME ONE

OIT won the first contest, 6-4, despite being out-hit by the home team, 10-9. Starting pitcher Kelly Scott (8-3) took the win for the Owls while Loryn Williams recorded the save. For the Beacons, Katie Walker (2-11) went the distance, striking out two batters and allowing three earned runs.

Oregon Tech did all of their game-one damage during a two-inning stretch as they scored three in the second and three in the third inning. All three runs in the second were unearned, while the final three came in on a home run from Cassidy Hoglund, her first of the season.

Trailing 6-0, the Beacons attempted to mount a comeback, scoring a run in the third, two in the fifth and one in the bottom of the seventh. Three of the four runs were scored by sophomore Jess Garner (pictured) who had herself a day, hitting three-for-three with a single, double, and triple in order. Paige Griffith was 2-for-3 for NCU.

GAME TWO

Williams (5-5) remained in the circle for OIT in game two and pitched the entirety, striking out seven NCU batters and allowing just four hits in the shutout. Janieve Boyles (0-4) allowed six runs on six hits over four innings for the Beacons to take the loss. Walker returned for three innings of relief work and allowed just two hits while striking out two more.

This time it was one big inning that did in the Beacons as Oregon Tech scored five runs in the third inning.

Avery Daniels batted 2-for-3 for the Beacons.

NCU and Oregon Tech will meet again on Saturday for two more games, beginning at 11:00 am.
