EUGENE, Ore – Corban University kept themselves in first-place in the CCC on Sunday, sweeping a three-game set from Northwest Christian University, 5-3 (10 innings), 14-0 (5), and 15-3 (5). The last two games both ended after five innings via run rule.

The Warriors (20-4, 8-1 CCC) pounded out 40 hits on the day including 11 doubles and two home runs while allowing the Beacons (2-15, 2-5 CCC) to score just four earned runs over 20 innings.

Maddy Melton led the way for Corban, collecting six hits on the day including three doubles. Chaleigh Kirkwood hit .571 on the afternoon and earned seven RBI while Aubrene Blas also hit .571, scored five runs and had four stolen bases.

NCU players showed flashes as well with
Caitlyn Messman going 3-for-5 in the opener while
Paige Griffith hit 3-for-3 in the night cap.

The day almost started out much differently for the Beacons as they were one out away from a 2-1 seven-inning victory in the opener. Corban rallied to score two runs in the seventh to take the lead, only to see NCU respond with a run in the bottom half to make it a 3-3 game after seven innings.

In the top of the 10th, Corban posted a pair of runs to win the game. Sabrina Boyd (9-2) went the distance for the Warriors, striking out three batters and allowing two earned runs.
Katie Walker (2-7) also pitched ten innings for the Beacons and tied her career high with seven strikeouts.

Both teams will be on the road next weekend as they continue CCC action. Corban will be in Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech while the Beacons will be in Montana to face Carroll College.Â
