EUGENE, Ore – The NCU softball team was swept again on Sunday, falling twice to No. 6 Simpson University, 2-1 and 8-0.

The Beacons had the best offensive game of the young season in the opener, collecting six hits including a pair from freshman
Tra Kucera. Freshman
Alyssa Gayle also provided the best pitching performance thus far, allowing just two earned runs over six innings while striking out four batters.

Trailing 2-0, NCU tried to mount a comeback in the seventh inning, scoring their only run on an RBI single from
Paige Griffith (pictured) to bring home
Madi Novelli.

The weekend closed with a five-inning run-rule defeat as the Redhawks posted eight runs on 11 hits. The Beacons had two errors in the game and starting pitcher Madison Jones was charged with just four earned runs and also struck out four batters.

Kucera once again had a pair of hits for the Beacons with Novelli and Griffith adding singles.

NCU (0-4) will take two weeks off, returning to California on February 17 for the Biola University tournament in West Covina. The team will play five games in two days in the event.Â
